Renewable Energy Design

Comfortable with homes, multi-family units, deli kitchens or small commercial projects, we will find the best balance between your needs, the building and the budget.

Design & installations of:
Plumbing for renovations or new construction
Hydronic gas or oil-fired heating systems
    Steam boiler systems
    Renewable fuel heating systems
      Wood pellet boilers
      Pellergy boiler conversions
      Cordwood boilers
      Solar thermal systems
      Domestic water recirculating systems
      Integrated multiple unit heating systems

Using the newest technologies for piping, including pex systems and instantaneous hot water heaters, we can provide services for most applications including antique cast iron repair or splicing, copper to pex conversions and interfaces with municipal water systems.

Hot water recirculation or manifold-to-faucet distribution are piping concepts often considered in energy efficient or "green" domestic water and wastewater systems design. Larry Pike has been installing these systems for years, ask him if repiping will help your home energy consumption. Energy-Star spoken here.

Thinking about solar, cordwood or wood pellets?

When considering future installations of solar thermal or secondary boiler systems, we suggest installing an indirect water storage tank with two sets of heat exchange coils. Planning ahead can save time and money.

Dual fuel systems offer "Fuel Flexibility" that respond to changes in the cost of fuel. Combination boilers or side-by-side boiler installations can allow for use of multiple energy sources in several combinations: oil, gas, cordwood, wood pellets, solar.

The Vermont produced Pellergy wood pellet conversion burner offers fuel flexibility by swapping out the oil-fired gun in many hot water or steam boilers. The process is reversible and is the most cost-efficient way to switch to a renewable fuel and respond to changing oil prices.

What do you mean by "Best Balances"?

Balanced choices consider many factors before a component or system is selected.

      Opportunites & constraints may be:
the age and insulation of the building, age & activity of the occupants, daily or weekly use patterns, capital investment vs.operating expenses, fuel costs, preferences & availability, reusable system parts, available equipment space, safety, and the timing of other planned energy-efficiency improvements.

Functional wants, needs or dreams may be:
warm radiant floors, freedom from drafts, hot water in every bath at the same moment, dependable delivery during long absences, basic warmth during electrical outtages, fast recovery for supplemental workshop/studio heat.

              Philosophical factors may include:
reducing dependence on foreign oil, wise use and conservation of natural resources, use of renewable fuels, local economy support, a contribution towards the reduction of global warming by reducing your carbon footprint.
