Renewable Energy Design

Discover the best choices for your home or business.

Natural HeatWorks

is a concept, a website, a resource and an emerging provider of hybrid renewable fuel heating solutions for home and business. It represents a collaboration devoted to the practical and thoughtful transition to renewable fuels, energy efficient buildings and a more sustainable community through energy conservation. Established in 2009 as a trade name, NHW provides a common business locus for Susan Randall Davis Architect and Larry Pike Plumbing & Heating.

Heating

Larry Pike, licensed Master Plumber in Vermont & New Hampshire, has designed and installed code-compliant plumbing and heating systems since 1985 for institutional, commercial, multi-family, historic preservation and residential projects. Equally at home with antique cast iron or modern pex piping, he has long implemented many newly popular concepts such as radiant floor heating or domestic hot water recirculation. As a Navy Nuclear Power School graduate he managed the 600lb steam powered equipment aboard the USS Nimitz and finds community steam systems an exciting new prospect for Vermont. The seventh generation Vermonter is the proud reclaimer of an 1840 timberframe Connecticut River valley gable entry cape in Newbury where the family farmstead still produces maple sugar. Larry brings practical know-how, advanced technical training and significant experience to every project.
He is a co-founder of Natural HeatWorks.

Architecture

Susan Randall Davis is a Licensed Architect with 30 years experience as a designer and builder of sustainable energy-efficient homes. The award-winning 1980 Vermont Solar Homes competition super-insulated double-shell home she built in Charlotte, one of the first homes using foam insulating panels, continues to provide its new owners with bountiful sunshine and low heating costs. She finds deep-energy retrofits, antique house reclamation, life-span design, design counseling and home improvement planning, including heating system hybridization, to be a particularly satisfying way to assist families. A hands-on homeowner, she lives and works on a Champlain Valley hillside with a hybrid heating system; an old cordwood boiler with both powered and gravity feed loops that is piped alongside a rarely used oil boiler. Next phase will replace the oil burner gun with a Pellergy wood pellet conversion burner to achieve a fully renewable fuel heating system.
